Camping use to mean "roughing it." It meant sleeping outdoors, perhaps in a sleeping bag or tent, on the hard ground, cooking over a campfire and going to the bathroom outside. Many of us would not even consider camping as something we would find enjoyable or interesting. Camping this way might appeal to the young and energetic, but for the average family, camping was something that was seldom thought of as entertainment.
Today, everything has changed when it comes to camping. There are some who still find adventure in sleeping under the stars in the great outdoors and look forward to the opportunity to get away to a quieter activity, but most people will avail themselves of many of the tools, products and gadgets available today that make camping less of a "roughing it" activity. From the wide variety of locations and venues that are available to the wide range of camping products that are now made, you can virtually create an experience for you and your family that you may not have even have thought possible. With the products available today, camping can be a "home away from home" experience.
If you have not considered camping as a vacation possibility for you and your family before, consider what it could look like. You arrive at a facility with a reservation for a spot that you have chosen. That spot could be anything from a parking space for your recreational vehicle to a gorgeous lakeside campground. It could be a cabin with indoor plumbing and group facilities nearby or a wilderness location where you can get closer to nature. When it comes to food, your options are also incredibly varied. You could cook over an open flame or use a high-tech portable stove or grill that will be similar to cooking at home. There are a wide range of campers from which to choose if you don't look forward to sleeping under the stars or in a tent.
You don't even need to buy a camper. In most areas rentals are readily available and you can choose from a variety of styles. Some are very simple and others have many of the conveniences of home.
In the United States fishing is very regulated. Each state issues fishing licenses and sets regulations as to the season in which a certain species of fish may be caught, the minimum permissible size, and the number that may be taken per day.
One of the best aspects of camping is the endless variety of locations and activities available at different sites. You can find sites at some of the most beautiful natural locations in the world or stay closer to home if you just have a few days or weekend. If you have more time, you can plan a camping trip to the mountains, by a lake or the sea, or near a historic or tourist location where you can include other activities into your camping trip such as sightseeing, shopping, horseback riding, boating, hiking, swimming, and any number of games and sports that appeal to you or the other members of your family or group. The possibilities are endless.
